Whole New World

Whew! Made it here in one piece...Must admit I'm abit nervous about putting myself out here - I can imagine my dad saying "it's just attention-seeking".

I'm looking forward to this course, if I can just get enough time to keep doing it (have snuck on here before I drop the monkeys at kindy and go to work). My experience with Web 2.0 technologies has so far been limited to finding stuff on YouTube for the monkeys to watch. One of my favourites is Andrea Bocelli singing a lullaby to Elmo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv38j4lPzd0 but Monkey 2 is particularly taken with Bernard the Bear & the Alien http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr51YruzzFU. There is some really cool stuff on there, like sand art http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TXDSlhSo-U and this kid who plays amazing guitar solos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aupBskrGPXg&feature=related. I can see how all this technology can be addictive (or what my mother would refer to as a "time-waster").

It will be nice to learn about all this "stuff" that's out there, and be able to relate to my 14 year old god-daughter who, at the moment, lives in this world of emo's, MySpace, online photo albums with nothing but self-taken pictures of her scowling at the camera wearing tons of black eyeliner. I thought the YA librarian blog was pretty well done, definitely the way to connect with Gen Y etc.

My parents are also embracing Lifelong Learning - having rung me the other day to announce they had just "discovered" internet banking (apparently they have been living under a rock ;) ). Now I just need to get them to actually switch their mobile phone on...

Anyway, must dash. 'Til next time....
