Have spent a few days playing around with RSS feeds. Found that some sites were very user-friendly, allowing you to set up RSS feeds easily (thank you librarian.net) whilst others did not want to play nicely (won't mention any names).
So, in the spirit of learning (but not wanting to be inundated with information) I subscribed to the following RSS feeds...
- Librarian.net
- Librarian's Internet Index (has been around for ages)
- Shifted Librarian
- Swiss Army Librarian (interesting, varied content relating to public libraries)
- Powerhouse Museum Photo of the Day
- Boing Boing (how can you go past a name like this?)
- Simply Recipes (thought it might inspire me!)
I think RSS feeds could be successfully used in Library Services to meet the needs of both staff and customers. Staff could subscribe to RSS feeds depending on their tasks and interests, to minimise the amount of irrelevant emails we come into contact with. Customers could also subscribe to various feeds depending on their interests, location etc.
Signing off for now...
